When can we really cross the border by train?

Did you watch HRH Princess Sirinthorn commenced the opening ceremony of first train trip between Nong Khai and Tha Na Laeng via Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge on Mar 5? Me too. And I was planning long time to get that train during my Lao trip on Mar 6-9. And it will cost only B80.

But what I discovered when I reached Nong Khai train station on the 6th was that I could travel to Tha Na Laeng station in Laos only for taking photos and sightseeing but cannot step a foot into Lao's land. The trip will be free of charge but what's the point? The staff told me that Thai and Lao governments couldn't reach an agreement about the immegration regulations and custom procedures. What? We have been talking about this for year!!!! Our governments have invested a lot for the construction until it completed. But what? Cannot? So, when?

There's only silence from the officials. What we can do for this is just wait, and hope the train can really travel cross the border very soon.
