Domaine St. George Wine Dinner at Hamilton’s Steak House, Dusit Thani Bangkok

On July 3, Dusit Thani Bangkok will present wines that reflect California’s natural beauty and rich winemaking heritage during the Domaine St. George Wine Dinner at the hotels Hamilton Steak House. Respected winemaker Bob Fredson will be the guest speaker during the night.

      Domaine Saint George boasts a portfolio of wines that represents the incredible diversity and quality inherent in wines from California. For this wine event, high-quality wine varieties from this Sonoma County winery will be paired with a fabulous 5-course gourmet dinner.

      The fabulous dinner starts with a Selection of Californian canaps and tapas, paired with White Zinfandel 2007; followed by a Mosaique of Main Lobster and Scallop, paired with Sauvignon Blanc 2007; and then Seared Sword Fish, paired with a Chardonnay 2006. Next comes Ravioli with Butternut and Smoked Ricotta, paired with Merlot 2004, and then Roasted Challans Duck Breast, paired with Cabernet Sauvignon 2006 and St. George Syrah 2005. Capping the meal is Fresh Black Cherry Gratin, served with Madagascar Vanilla Bean Ice Cream and Almond Florentine Cookie, and coffee or tea.

     The set dinner costs Baht 2,300++ per person
Dusit Wine and Dine Members and groups of 10 pay only Baht 2,100++ per person.

     The evening will begin with a cocktail reception at 7 pm.

Inter restaurant To-Sit Balcony has set up another shop this time at Prachachuen (Urban Square, Prachachuen Rd., 02-591-2727. Open daily 4pm-midnight. And Greyhound Caféis still growing, having opened up at Ratchayothin (234-2 Major Avenue Ratchayothin, Ratchada Rd., 02-930-3684/-5. Open daily 11am-10pm). What recession?

Tenten Complex Fusion Restaurant: Margo

New eatery a part of the tenten complex complete with a pilates studio, jewelry store and beauty center, Margo (Ten Ten, 593/2, between Sukhumvit Soi 33 and 35, 02-259-3510. Open daily 8:30am-9pm) isn’t afraid of the F-word and is offering up contemporary fusion cuisine. The small but cozy restaurant inspired by the Mediterranean style is set in warm colors of purple and orange. Here you can sip on wines from their modest selection (B1,050-2,400) and feast on dishes such sliced sirloin salad served with jim jaew sauce (B210) and poached chicken and lemongrass salad (B160).

New Noodle Shop: Phu Reau

The owner of Basilico, has now opened up a boat noodle shop, aptly titled Phu Rua (Sukhumvit Soi 33, 02-662-1911.Open daily 6am-9pm). They serve coffee and breakfast in the morning, and you can choose between a full English, Italian or American breakfast for B250. However this petite café-styled shop starts their kuay teayw reua at 11am. It’s B45-70 for a bowl of either pork or beef.

New Italian Restaurant: Villa Italia

Yes, there is another new Italian restaurant in town, but this time they aren’t only serving up pasta but some art and theater. Villa Italia (82 Sukhumvit Soi 33, 02-260-9585. Open daily 11am-10pm) also functions as a showroom for imported products from Italy including Mariella Burani fashion, furniture by Desio and Robe, and glass design by Vetreria Lux, alongside artwork by European artists and a workshop for theater production and shows. Besides soaking up some culture, drink the night away at the wine bar. As for food the tasting menu comes recommended, the chef pairs each dish with a wine such as the matured cheese honey topped accompanied with dessert wine (B490). Or go traditional with their platter of tuscan ham with rocket, taleggio cheese and balsamic vinegar cream (B250).

Intercontinental's New Restaurants Coming Soon

Intercontinental’s going through a major makeover, with some new restaurants and bars soon to open. For now you can look forward to the new Espresso (Mezzanine leve,l Intercontinental, 973 Ploenchit Rd., 02-656-0444. Open daily 6am-10.30pm) opening early May. The menu has been revamped with an international selection, featuring Thai, French and Japanese. A la carte dining is available for all meals, as are buffets (breakfast B660, lunch B790, dinner B1190). Next up is the Grossi Trattoria & Wine Bar (G/F, 973 Ploenchit Rd., 02-656-0444. Open daily 9am-midnight) looking to open mid-May. Guy Grossi brings his reputation as one of Australia’s most celebrated chefs and restaurateurs with the help of his Australian counterpart, sous chef Jess Barnes delivering family-style Italian cuisine.
 

Champagne Dinner at Vintage 21

Vintage 21 (19 Silom Soi 21, Silom Rd., 02-630-2244. Open Mon-Sat 6-11pm) is hosting a Champagne dinner on Apr 23 featuring wineries Cedric Bouchard, Egly-Ouriet, and Dom Perignon. For B3,900 feast on the evening’s champagnes matched with the five-course dinner including dishes such as poached snowfish and wagyu steak. Dinner starts at 7pm, and make sure you come with a party of six and get sloshed on all four bottles.
