Bangkok Design Festival 2008

October 9th, 2008

October promises to be a month of great design-related events. To make things easier for us, they’ve kindly put them all under one umbrella. The result is the second Bangkok Design Festival featuring international designers and artists taking part in 30-plus events at over 10 different locations. The festival will consist of all kinds of design-related events: art exhibitions, seminars, talks, workshops, fairs and contests.

Art lovers might want to head to the Bangkok Art and Culture Center where you’ll catch Transforming Public Spaces, Post-it City an architectural exhibit from Spain or Ffurious, the Singaporean motion graphic exhibition under the theme “Urban” showing growth and development of a city and how that affects the environment. The Siam Center will also have 70 of the best design-related theses from university students on display under the exhibition titled Siam Center Degree Shows 08.

For some hands-on knowledge, join the India Calling workshop which has architect Manit Rastogi and fashion photographer Tarun Khiwal delivering lectures on their specific fields. Or, on Oct 25, join the Designers’ Saturday, workshop hosted by two designers, Vince Frost from London and Javin Mo from Hong Kong.

If you’re just looking for an opportunity to shop, head to the Design Market at Siam Paragon, here you’ll find both local and internationally designed products. For something even bigger, the annual BIG+BIH is also a part of the festival. Held at Impact, this year’s fair falls under the theme “In Full Bloom” and will display new product ideas and designs created by the new generation of Thai designers.

The Bangkok Design Festival is on from Oct 14-26. For a complete list of events visit their website at www.bangkokdesignfestival.com.
