French Film Festival

French Film Festival

June 11th, 2009

As part of La Fête 2009, the French Film Festival showcases the latest Gallic productions at SF World Cinema, from June 19-July 1.

The festival opens with Largo Winch. Director Jerome Salle’s adaptation of the Belgian best-selling comic book is a fast-paced action film that centers on Largo Winch, the heir to an industrial empire that many would like to claim. Continue the escapade with Philippe Ramos’ Captain Achab, in which the new wave director presents his unusual interpretation of Herman Melville’s classic, Moby Dick.

If you prefer dramas, don’t miss I’ve Loved You So Long, Philippe Claudel’s directorial debut which won the 2009 Cesar for Best First Film. Kristin Scott Thomas (The English Patient) delivers a remarkable performance as a fresh-out-of-jail woman who struggles to reconnect with her family and find her place in a society. Another worthy option is Seraphine, the award-winning biopic of servant-turned-gifted painter Seraphine de Senlis.
Animation fans are also in for a treat. Fear(s) of the Dark is a collective of works by six graphic novelists who animate their nightmares and phobias and weave them into this black-and-white omnibus of short films.
Tickets are B100 at SF World Cinema (7/F, CentralWorld, Ratchadamri Rd., 02-268-8888. www.sfcinemacity.com). For more information, go to www.lafete-bangkok.com.
