Jamaree Yak Café Gallery and Bar
Jamaree Yak Café Gallery and Bar
June 24th, 2009Opened: April 2009

The buzz: Smitten with the cultures of the Middle East, a group of travelers thought it would be swell to have somewhere for people to hang out in an Arabian-inspired environment. The result? A unique café-cum-bar-cum-gallery where a group of friends can get filled up and warmed up before heading out to paint the town red.
The décor: The spacious and tree-filled garden hugging the Technicolor two-storey house is enough to make people stop and stare in wonder. The seashell mobiles, gaudy printed clothes and tapestries adorning the place may even have some people mistake it for a psychic’s lair. The interior houses three different sections with names like Nepal, Turkey and Sahara. Quirky memorabilia and knick knacks fill up the space (you can buy anything that has a price tag on it). The unfinished second floor is an impending art gallery expected to be complete within the next couple of months.
The music: The playlist varies throughout the day, starting off with bossanova, followed by Indian chill out before switching to upbeat house as the evening progresses.
The crowd: In-the-know crowds, first jobbers sand people who love to travel.
The price: Cocktails B150-250 (SheeVa Wop, a mix of sugarcane and rice rum, is used as a base in all of their drinks), beer B100, mixers B40-60. Corkage B200 (if you bring your own bottle). The food menu sees finger foods and three to four mains (changed regularly) with an option between rice and roti, starting from B85-150.
Why you’ll come back: Cozy, intimate setting, and super friendly staff.
213 Rama 9 Soi 60, Rama 9 Rd., 02-718-4445. Open Tue-Sun noon-10:30pm.
