Q&A: Sqweez Animal
Q&A: Sqweez Animal
May 23rd, 2008Sqweez Animal recently cleaned up the 2008 Fat Awards walking away with the Album of the Year and Duo/Group Artist of the Year awards. Fresh from this success, the indie pairing, Win and Singha, are now gearing up for their Home Sqweez Home concert.
What can fans expect from Home Sqweez Home?
Win: An intimate gig with the vibe of a house party. It’s also like a reunion for us because we invited many artists we’ve worked with to join us on stage.
Singha: We’ll perform songs that we don’t usually get to play at other concerts. You’ll also get to see us playing alongside hip hop acts like Buddha Bless and Doo Ja Da. We try to introduce something new for every live show—to keep us motivated and the fans entertained.
But what if the fans don’t enjoy the show?
Singha: Actually, that happened quite a lot during our first gigs because people didn’t know our songs. But, we always do our best and just keep on having fun on stage, hoping that our energy and enthusiasm will infect the crowd.
Win: Yes, if we worry too much, we would only end up stressing ourselves out.
Do you think your looks are one of Sqweez Animal’s selling points?
Singha: Really? Not at all [laughs]. I think most people know us from our songs from listening on the radio. And you can’t see someone’s face on the radio.
Win: Kind of, I guess. In order for a band to be successful these days, you have to have it all, from good songs to good musicians and good looks. More importantly, you have to be yourself. I don’t think pretenders will last long, so we aren’t trying to be what we are not.
Tell us something we might not know about Sqweez Animal?
Singha: I’m still excited every time I go on stage and get shaky legs, no matter how big or small the concert is. I also feel naked without my guitar, I don’t know what to do on stage without it!
Win: I can’t leave home without my mobile phone or else I can’t contact anyone. I can’t even remember my girlfriend’s number!
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Win: In my own resort on an island. I am easily bored and sick of routines. Now, I’m getting bored of Bangkok because it’s getting more and more repetitive and monotonous. I want to have my own resort so that I’ve got a refuge whenever I have had too much of the city.
Singha: Hopefully, I’ll still be in this business. I want to be able to make a living from
making music.
