Someone Inside

Someone Inside

February 4th, 2010

Narissara Pianwimungsa attempts to reveal who we are beneath our clothes through Someone Inside, one of the artworks currently on display in her latest solo exhibition, Heart Core. See HERE.

Medium: Pastel painting on paper.

What inspired this piece?
I’ve always been intrigued by how people choose to express themselves through their clothes and what they actually want others to perceive about them.

What is depicted in the picture?
The fashion industry tries so hard to create more colors to accommodate the fast-moving trends and capitalism. Yet the person wearing the clothes looks more confused than content.

Can you explain the stark contrast of the two colors?
It illustrates two different things. The heart represents consumer goods, so it has a bold, vibrant color. On the other hand, the person is somewhat more abstract and slightly subdued.
What’s your message to the viewers?
If you try to get to know people through their clothes, you will only know their clothes.
