29/59-64 RCA, Rama 9 Rd., 08-7593-4679. Open daily 6pm-late.
The buzz: Adding to biggies Route, HOBB, 808 and BOX, comes Toys, a nightclub under the banner of Slim and Click Radio, in place of what used to be a bar called 3 Some.
The décor: As the name suggests, the interiors are decked out like a playhouse—bright, colorful and adorned with big and funky designs. A section of the club is lined with furniture that looks like it could have come straight out of a nursery, (you will reminisce of the days when you were six). The tables are tiny, square-shaped and decorated with multicolored board games on top. The stage, only slightly elevated, welcomes both bands and DJs. An area in the center is creatively carved out like a swimming pool, where you can choose to sit on the edges (where a big bear will keep you company) or, in true baan-baan style, smack on the floor. Toys’ other section gives off a more mature vibe, decorated in modern and contemporary designs and furnished with plush red seating. There is also a balcony area for those wanting to breathe in the cool fresh air, while it lasts.
The music: Easy-listening pop, indie and rock.
The crowd: The generic RCA club-hopper, edging more toward the Thai population. But contrary to what the name suggests, you won’t find many younguns’ here.
The price: Whisky B1,000-1,500/bottle, cocktails B150-180, beer B120-160. They also have food: snacks, salads and sandwiches averaging out to about B100 a plate.
Why you’ll come back: Unlike its generic big club neighbors, this one actually follows a full-on theme!
