All that Glitters

All that Glitters

All that Glitters

The invitation, a golden Rubik’s cube, had the appeal of a modern day ticket to Willy Wonka’s Factory. That alone, or was it just the Tippy Bunnag effect, managed to pack Conrad’s Club 87 Plus with Bangkok’s beautiful people for what was neither a re-launch nor a revamp. The new Filipino band City Beat gave the crowd a healthy dose of 80s and early 90s classics through a not-so-healthy set of speakers. If that’s your kind of sound, go there from 6-9:30pm for the buy-1-get-1-free on selected drinks—the Pure Gold cocktail is simply divine.

Under the Bridge

Parkbridge was throwing its website launch party the same night. Last time we checked, www.theparkbridge.com’s agenda is stuck on May and there’s really nothing to get all ooh la la about. The owner, Julien, did have great stories on one bar paying the cops one million baht a month to open after hours and how the men in brown have killed Bangkok’s nightlife. “How can you bring in a DJ from Berlin if you don’t know if you’re going to be shutdown at 1am that night?” he asked.

Pop is the New Indie

In just one week we got DJ 90 at Club 87 Plus (guess what DJ “Ninety” likes to play), the Streetlife DJ duo at Bed and Trasher proudly playing Britney Spears… Looks like pop is kicking indie’s ass. Should we be ashamed?
