The buzz: A hotel that also wants to pass itself off as a one stop entertainment venue, and we’re not talking about that kind of entertainment. Spread across four floors of the Vie Hotel, Vie 39 looks to offer different venues to cater to your changing moods with each story offering different themes.
The décor: Start at the jazz lounge on the second floor where you can relax on the plentiful plush sofas and enjoy an after work glass of wine. Up one floor, you’ll find a simple alfresco area, equipped with a small kitchen serving light snacks. Its outdoor setting means it’s popular with smokers. Continuing on up, you next come to the wine and cigar lounge on the fourth floor: high stools surrounding a large central bar, but with a little more flamboyance thanks to the liberal use of orange. If you’re still standing then the pool terrace is where you can wash away the sins of the evening by taking a quick dip while enjoying the view of the neighboring church.
The music: Easy-listening jazz on the second floor, more upbeat house and techno at the wine and cigar lounge.
The crowd: You’ll find office workers and couples 30 and above in the jazz lounge, while the wine cigar section should play host to a slightly younger more social crowd.
The price: Cocktails B250, wine B1,100-2,500, beer B180-220 and whiskey B1,000-3,400.
Why you’ll come back: If you’re going to make the trek out of Sukhumvit, at least you don’t have to go anywhere else once you’ve arrived.
