We Heart Bangkok

  • This week you’ll mainly love your city for its...

    Airport Rail Link

The airport link? Again? Yeah, but this time we actually have a launch date we can (sort of) believe in. In case you forgot, the Airport Rail Link, which is being built by Siemens, was due to open Nov 4, then in Dec, then in Feb. Obviously, that didn’t happen. The State Railway of Thailand Governor, Yutthana Thapcharoen, is now threatening to sue Siemens for some B17 million. In any case, Transport Minister Sophon Saram is confident the remaining issues (something about backup power, CCTVs and communications systems) will soon be resolved. Sophon promises free test rides in April and full commercial operation by July—if nothing else goes wrong.
