BANGKOK VENUE

Muji (Samyan Mitrtown)

Finally, a Bangkok Muji store that serves coffee.

When Muji, Japan’s master of all things minimal, announced the opening of its biggest Bangkok store to date at the newly-debuted Samyan Mitrtown, you knew the store would stand out from the rest.

Beyond the classic pared-back stationery, kitchenware, clothing and toiletries (we swear each section doubled in size), the new branch added clothing lines like ReMuji—which revives vintage garments through indigo dyeing techniques—and Muji Labo, which offers fashionable takes on everyday basics in clean silhouettes and neutral colors like white, beige and navy. You can now get free alterations for bottoms, too, a service available exclusively to this branch.

The new store comes with more perks too, like a new embroidery service that customizes designs on Muji products you buy (B10 per letter; B100 per design). There are also special edition tote bags with Thai motifs (B115); and Green Space, a corner devoted to plants ideal for tiny indoor gardens.

The real highlight, however, is the Coffee Corner. While it’s far from the full-scale Muji Cafe & Meal you'd hope to find (like the one in Tenjin Daimyo) it will still satisfy most Muji fans. Expect espressos, americanos, cappucinos and cafe lattes made from beans sourced from Doi Tung (Chiang Rai), as well as light bites from 60 Plus Bakery & Cafe―a disability-inclusive project under the Royal Patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.

Right by the Coffee Corner is Open Muji, a new creative space for workshops and exhibitions. Kicking off the store’s grand opening is Muji Poster Archive, which showcases vintage ad Muji posters from 1980-1990.
