The Wine Merchant
A boutique wine importer opens its first store in a riverside hotel.
A luxury hotel might not be your average landing spot for a wine store, but importer-distributor The Wine Merchant defies expectations with its new space in the Mandarin Oriental.
The store, set adjacent to the Authors’ Lounge, offers bottles from over 100 different wineries, plus a selection of boutique spirits such as Hayman’s gin (B1,200/700ml) and Jean-Luc Pasquet L’Organic 04 cognac (B1,690/700ml). The prices are competitive whatever your budget, with a wide range of wines available for less than B1,000, from reds and whites to port and Champagne.
Co-founders Aman Sachdev and Nan Pittara—two of the people behind La Casa Nostra—say the prices are the same here as you will find on their new iOS app, Virtual Wine Cellar.
At the shop, a concierge is on hand to help you pick the right bottles. You can also book the space for private “sommelier table” tasting sessions for groups of up to eight.
