Khaosan Road, Bangkok’s notorious backpacker hub, has lived through a lot of turmoil. Vendor bans, coups—you name it. But it has never been as quiet and devoid of street life as it is now.

Taken from a safe distance by BK’s uber-talented and precaution-taking photographer, Poonsawat “Toh” Suttama, who bravely snapped shots of delivery drivers social distancing last month, these photos capture Khaosan at its emptiest.

The tourists are gone, the money changers have shuttered, and we can now admit that there’s nothing sadder than the sight of a parked tuk tuk with its party lights turned off indefinitely.

On the bright side, it looks like all those talked-about developments are finally happening.
