The buzz: The Thonglor vibe crosses Sukhumvit Road and finds a home in a small sub-soi off Sukhumvit 36.
The décor: The big house has a lot going for it with its tall, black-trimmed windows, spacious deck and looming trees. The random retro furniture, from 50s knock-offs to faux Louis XIV chairs, is hopelessly uninspired, though. Are these bars all mass-produced in the same factory?
The music: The bar’s crew voted against live bands, a bold stand when you’re within spitting distance of Thonglor. The playlist can go from fresh and exciting electro pop (DJ Prayer on Thursdays) to painfully lame commercial hits when no one’s manning the decks.
The price: Black Label B1,400, Red B900. Cocktails B120-150 (all four of them). Beers B80-90 (small bottle) and B150-160 (big). The food really hits the spot and most of the dishes are under B100.
The crowd: We’re told the owners are ad men, so expect account execs and graphic designers who have sold their souls to the devil.
Why you’ll come back: Good food, no live bands and no Thonglor traffic. You can even walk to here from the BTS if you’re not worried about showing up with a sticky face.
