BANGKOK RESTAURANT

Ban Khun Mae

Set in a lovely Thai-style wooden house, Baan Khun Mae (‘Mom’s House’ in Thai) is a classic restaurant oozing Thainess through its sculpted wooden panels, its white and blue crockery, its classical musician (daily at 7pm) and its staff in traditional outfits. Chuchee kung mae nam (plump river shrimps in red curry), gaeng pet ped yang (roast duck in red curry) and kai pad med mamuang (chicken fried with cashew nuts) are all just as authentic. There’s also good selection of Thai sausages including sai oua (northern-style pork sausage), well-complemented by boiled vegetables and nam prik ong (Northern-style green chili paste).
