Love Eat Bistro

The buzz: Tucked in the Vic3 Hotel in Phaholyothin, Love Eat Bistro boasts a trendy decor and a multi-cuisine menu. The owner, Nichaya Phahusutr, used to work in finance, but has put herself through the paces by owning soft serve ice-cream stalls and even a café at Suvarnabhumi airport.

The décor: Girly and vintage, a bit like Audrey Cafe (in Thonglor Soi 11), down to the checkered floor, striped chairs and floral upholstery. A few decorative knick-knacks complete the picture while the outdoor bar allows you to knock back a couple of drinks al fresco.

The food: With the very large menu containing so many different cuisines, it’s hard to summarize the venue’s direction. On top of that, you’ve got fusion touches like spaghetti with pesto sauce and shrimp tempura (B260), spring rolls filled with pesto sauce, shrimp and mozzarella (B245) and ivy gourd leaves soup with minced pork and fried salted fish (B135). Mostly though, expect crowd-pleasing curries, spaghetti, steak and yam (spicy salads). Standouts include the Phang Nga recipes, like the chili paste in gaeng poo baan Phang Nga (spicy curry with crab, B385), which is served with the noodles. Those working in the area will also appreciate the list of single dishes, like khao pad namprik noom (stir-fried rice with Northern chili paste, B195) and khao soi (noodles in Northern style served with chicken, B165). Top it all off with Belgium dark chocolate souffle and Matcha ice cream (B195) and homemade ice cream (B85).

The drinks: Cocktails come with cute presentations like the colorful ice cubes in Love Eat All Around (light rum, vodka, kahlua, triple sec, lime juice, cranberry juice, grenadine, B280) or the rainbow-colored Serve with Pride (light rum, lemongrass, kaffir lime, lime juice, chili, B230) and A Crush on You (kahlua, light rum, dark rum, apple juice, lime juice, B250). Wines start from B900. Beers are Singha (B130) Hoegaarden (B185) Heineiken (B140). Drop by this month for a buy-one-get-one-free offer on prosecco (B899 for a bottle).

The crowds: Office workers in the area and the hotel’s mostly Asian guests. Pieng-or Mongkolkumnuankhet
