UPDATE: Gaggan announces second, more accessible branch in Bangkok

The awards are a local version of the global World's 50 Best Restaurants, by San Pellegrino, and have come to be known as the definitive ranking for top restaurants in the world.

The molecular wizardry of Chef Gaggan Annand’s progressive Indian restaurant Gaggan beat off rivals from such cuisine capitals as Tokyo and Hong Kong to be named best in the region, making it two in two for Thailand after Nahm's success in 2014

Judges called Gaggan "an unexpected taste of India in colonial surrounds...chef Gaggan Anand takes classic Indian dishes and reinterprets them with modernity and flair in a bid to bridge the gap between eastern and western cuisine."

Elsewhere on the list, the traditional Thai food of David Thompson’s Nahm placed seventh, while chef Tim Butler's Eat Me came in at 25, former Alumni of Thompson’s Nahm in London Bo and Dylan and their Thai restaurant Bo.Lan came in at 37, and Ian Kittichai’s Issaya Siamese Club at 39.

There was no place for Bangkok's L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon, but the Hong Kong venue placed 17.
