The Delegation of the European Union to Thailand presents the 21st edition of the European Union Film Festival in Bangkok through Jun 10 at the Bangkok Art and Cultural Centre (5/F, BACC, Rama 1 Rd., 02-214-6630. www.bacc.or.th. BTS National Stadium) before going to Chiang Mai from Jun 15-24. The program consists of 23 films from 17 European countries; highlights include:

The Flying Pigs (2010, Poland) . The story of four supporters of a local football club. When the team ceases to exist, their whole world is changed.

Trishna (2011, UK) . Based on Thomas Hardy’s Tess of the D’Urbervilles; The story of the tragic relationship between the son of a property developer and the daughter of an auto rickshaw owner who is torn between the traditions of her family life and the dreams and ambitions that her education has given her.

Everlasting Moments (2008, Sweden) . Set in Sweden in the early 1900s, a period of great social and economic change. When a young working class woman, Maria, wins a camera in a lottery, it gives her the chance to see the world differently and empowers her to improve the plight of her family.

Krabat (2008, Germany) . A homeless boy working at an old watermill learns the powers of black magic. After the death of a friend, he must choose between justice and loyalty, leading to a showdown with his master.

Charlotte: A Royal at War (2008, Luxembourg) . Based on the true story of the Grand Duchess Charlotte of Luxembourg, the “propagandist in pearls” who used personal charm and the power of radio to reach her people during the brutal occupation of Hitler’s Third Reich.
